Different lottery fans from around the world have different ways of picking their winning lottery numbers. No doubt that there’s no concrete way of guaranteeing a certain set of numbers will come out although you can always look at the statistics to see which numbers are popular or are frequently drawn. However, some people prefer to be completely random when picking their numbers.
Whilst some people may have worked out a scientific or mathematical way of choosing their lottery numbers, others choose to use different methods. The most popular set of numbers people will use is birthdays – this is because it is quite often seen as the most important day of a person’s year. You can choose your children’s, parents, relatives, friends’ birthdays and they are easy to remember too! However, the problem with choosing birthdays is that the numbers will tend to be on the lower end of the scale (people don’t have birthdays past the 31st of the month!), so you may neglect the numbers in the late 30s and the 40s.
Actual ages of friends and family are also a popular choice with people and give a greater range of variety in terms of numbers. People also like to choose other dates, like anniversaries to use as lottery numbers. Other ideas include using house numbers, or car registration numbers. Some people use astrology or numbers associated with pets, like the day they brought them into the family home as a lottery number. Occasionally people will dream of some lucky numbers and scribble them down on some paper – there are even horoscope columns that suggest lucky numbers depending on your star sign – useful if you change your lottery numbers week by week!
Remember that you have a better chance of winning a big jackpot if you choose numbers that fewer people pick – why? Because if you choose 6 popular numbers that other people also choose, and you win the jackpot, it will be shared out between more people. Quite often, jackpot numbers that consist mainly or solely of high end numbers (in the late 30s and 40s) tend to have no jackpot winners because people generally will have a fair amount of low numbers in the selection too. Sometimes, choosing numbers in a smaller cluster can help you win big!
What about the classic lucky numbers? These tend to be low numbers for most people – 1, 3, 7 for example. These numbers are often chosen and are drawn too – however only selecting low numbers can lower your chances of winning a bigger prize and as we mentioned earlier, many others are choosing the same numbers as you.
Ultimately whatever numbers you decide to choose are up to you and there is always a chance you will win the jackpot, however you decide to pick your numbers. So grab a ticket and choose a set of numbers that inspire you – or if you are out of ideas let the machine or the lucky dip do it for you!
